’Watermills of Šumadija’

Exhibition Panels in the House of Archpriest Miloje Barjaktarević

In the villages of Šumadija, there used to be dozens of watermills built in the 18th and throughtout the 19th century. Besides their ethnographic value, watermills have always attracted people’s attention. This is primarily because they are located in very interesting places, surrounded by rivers and greenery, with picturesque and scenic landscapes.

The old architecture, to which watermills belong, represents the rich ethnological heritage of Šumadija. In the villages around Kragujevac, authentic watermills have been preserved, still resisting the passage of time. The exhibition presents nineteen watermills from the territory of the Šumadija district, on which the Cultural Heritage Preservation Institute Kragujevac carries out its activities.
