The construction of the Old Teachers’ School Building began in 1826 for the needs of the Magistrate of the Jagodina District and lasted for ten years. Despite its original purpose, the building was initially used as a military barracks and only after several years was it converted to house the District Administration. The adaptation of the building for use as a school began in the last years of the 19th century, and it was officially used as the Teachers' School starting in 1898. Between 1905 and 1908, the northern and southern wings were added. This resulted in a hall with a stage for school ceremonies and gymnastics lessons, four classrooms, and student dormitories. During the Balkan Wars and World War I, the school was not operational and was frequently converted into a military hospital. During this period, the school, along with its rich inventory, dormitory, park, and school grounds, suffered significant damage. The Teachers' School remained in the building until 1968, when a new building was constructed for the school.
