JAGODINA

The House was built in the early 19th century, during the period of liberation from Ottoman rule, and the decline of Ottoman influence in architecture. The building represents a typical example of a Serbian Morava-style house, created under the influence of rural architecture. It has a rectangular base and is situated on flat terrain. On the front side, there is a porch with doksat (porch/balcony). It was built in a timber-frame (bondruk) construction with wattle-and-daub infill. Beneath part of the ground floor there is a cellar. The roof is hipped, covered with traditional tiles (ćeramida). The interior consists of a central room (kuća), a bedroom, a guest room, and a small pantry (sopče). The ceilings in all rooms are made of šašovac (reed and plaster), while the floors are wooden. The building preserved numerous authentic details, such as the wooden lattice ‘toplija’ on the windows.

The House, with all its authentic details, represented a rare and valuable example of Morava-style construction. Unfortunately, the building was demolished in 2005.
