SVILAJNAC

amidzin konak u kragujevcu, milosev venac, zavod za zastitu spomenika kulture kragujevac

The Chronicle of the Monastery of Zlatenac contains information that the Church of St. Vrača was built in 1427 and that a ‘copying school’ operated within it, following the example of the nearby Manasija, until 1811, when it was destroyed by the Turks. The church is a single-nave structure with a dome above the nave and a semicircular altar apse to the east. The remains of the original structure include the beginning of the arch on the northeastern pilaster, which formed the proskomidia towards the altar. Also preserved are the richly profiled wreaths, which were located in the area of the semi-dome arches on the pilasters. The western portal is completely preserved, with interventions on the northern doorpost. The church was built from broken stone in lime mortar, with regular ashlars on the corners made of yellowish sandstone. It is plastered and whitewashed. The interior is frescoed, and the iconostasis is low and of a later date. After 1980, two ‘konaks’ (residences), a summer house, and a belfry were built in the churchyard of St. Vrača.
