The Church of Saint Peter and Paul in Grošnica was designated as a cultural heritage – cultural monument, by the Decision of the Government of the Republic of Serbia No. 633-16771/2002, dated December 13, 2002, and published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia No. 88 on December 23, 2002.
The Church of Saint Peter and Paul in Grošnica was built in 1857. It was erected in the center of the village during the second reign of Miloš Obrenović, at a time when the Romantic spirit in the cultural and artistic life of Serbia reached its zenith.
The church has a basilical layout with an octagonal dome above the central part. On the western side, there is a slender, Baroque bell tower, and on the eastern side, a semi-circular altar apse. The roof is vaulted with a semi-domed ceiling. The facades are made of stone, sandstone, decorated with horizontal and vertical joints, and beneath the profiled roof cornice, there is a series of blind arcades on consoles. Arched windows and a decorative portal are harmoniously incorporated into the overall architectural composition of the church. The interior is rather simply finished, without frescoes or any other ornamentation.
The iconostasis dates from the 20th century, specifically from 1959, and is the work of Nestor the woodcarver, a master of the Ohrid-Debar school, while the icons were painted by Adonis Stergiu in 1990. The church contains marble memorial plaques with the names of the residents of Grošnica and surrounding villages who fell during the period from 1912 to 1918.
