DESPOTOVAC

amidzin konak u kragujevcu, milosev venac, zavod za zastitu spomenika kulture kragujevac

The Building of the National Library ‘Resava School’ is located at 18 Despot Stefana Lazarevića Street in Despotovac. Constructed between 1903 and 1905 to serve the needs of the District Headquarters, it is a single-story structure featuring a main longitudinal and three transverse wings. The main façade is highlighted by a central risalit with a gable and an entrance flanked by columns, leading to an arched portal under a porch. The side risalits have two arched windows each, while the wall surface between the risalits contains four lintel-finished windows. The other façades follow a similar design. All decorative elements—around the windows, portal, horizontal and roof cornices, and the dentil frieze on the gable—are treated in the spirit of historicism with classicist elements, while the influence of the emerging Art Nouveau style is visible only in the floral ornaments at the corners of the gable.

Built from stone and brick, with a stone plinth and a multi-pitched roof covered with beaver-tail tiles, this cultural monument stands as a unique example of academically conceived architecture from the first decade of the 20th century in the interior of Serbia.
