HOMESTEAD OF ILIJA MILOŠEVIĆ
IN VRBICA
The Homestead of Ilija Milošević is located at the entrance to Aranđelovac, on the right side of the road coming from Topola. It was established in the 19th century. In the spacious courtyard, seven structures of the original homestead have been preserved: the old house, the newer house, a shed, a dairy, a barn, a coop, and a well.
The old house is the central structure within the household. The construction is set on flat terrain with shallow stone foundations. It is built with stone and lime mortar. The roof is four-sided, gently sloping, covered with tiles. The roof is moderately dilapidated with decorated eaves. Inside, the space is divided into three parts: the ‘house’ with a subsequently
brick-built hearth, a room, and an auxiliary space.
The shed is located between the old and the new house. It is supported by a high foundation wall on the side facing the old house, where the terrain has a significant slope. The structure is constructed from massive oak logs, joined at the ends using the traditional ‘učertan’ technique. The front side features a spacious and deep porch supported by two ornamented oak pillars. The roof is four-sided, gently sloping, and covered with ‘beaver tail’ tiles.
The dairy is built on shallow foundations made of rough stone. It is a square structure with walls made of logs. The lower sections of the walls, up to half the height of the building, are constructed from horizontally stacked logs, joined at the corners using the ‘učertan’ method. The upper sections of the walls are made of wooden planks, cut in a way that allows proper ventilation of the interior. The roof is four-sided and covered with traditional tiles.

The granary has an elongated base and is supported by a high stone foundation wall with a ‘tumbas’ (a characteristic stone projection). The entire structure consists of beams, posts, and braces. The roof is dual-pitched and covered with tiles.
The barn is separated from the other buildings and is placed on flat terrain. It is a rectangular structure built on a high foundation wall made of rough stone. The barn is constructed from logs, with a framework of posts, beams, and braces. On the approach side of the building, there is a spacious porch supported by two free-standing oak pillars. The roof is four-sided and covered with traditional tiles.
The new house was built in 1917, constructed from brick with plastered and whitewashed walls. It is set on a sloping terrain, with the part on the slope supported by a high foundation wall made of stone, where a basement was built. Above the basement, there are two rooms and an entrance hall. The roof is four-sided, moderately steep, and covered with ‘beaver tail’ tiles.
The Homestead of Ilija Milošević was designated as an immovable cultural heritage – a cultural monument, by the Decision of the Municipal Assembly of Aranđelovac, No. 06-19/92-01, dated March 6, 1992.
The well is located just above the dairy. It is 12 meters deep and constructed with stone blocks. The well has a wooden frame built from planks in the lower section, while the upper part is closed with hammered slats.
