Children's Library Building in Kragujevac was designated as a cultural heritage – cultural monument, by the Decision of the Government of the Republic of Serbia No. 633-6872/2001-4, dated July 17, 2001, and published in the Official Gazette No. 46 on July 27, 2001.
Children's Library Building in Kragujevac was constructed between 1935 and 1936. Built in the architectural style of the time, it was designed as an urban residential house, made from stone, brick, and reinforced concrete, with all the characteristic features of early 20th-century architecture. Originally, it was the family home of Jovan Đ. Mirković, a music professor at the Kragujevac Gymnasium. The house is a legacy that, according to Professor Mirković’s wishes, could only be used for cultural purposes. For many years, the building has hosted a part of the National Library in Kragujevac – the Children's Library. Within it are seven legacies, including three collections of paintings and four book collections, donated by several prominent citizens of Kragujevac. At the beginning of the 21st century, the building underwent a complete reconstruction while preserving its authentic appearance.
