The Annunciation Monastery of Rudnik (Blagoveštenje Rudničko in Serbian) is located on the slopes of the Rudnik Mountain. The monastery complex consists of a church with a bell tower, a refectory, three guesthouses, and auxiliary buildings.

The church has a rectangular base and is vaulted with a semi-domed roof. On the east side, both externally and internally, it features a semi-circular apse. It is built from rubble stone, and the floors are made of broken tiles.

After the original frescoes were discovered during conservation work in 1981, it was determined that the monastery was built at the end of the 14th century, during the time of Prince Lazar (Knez Lazar in Serbian). During the Ottoman period, the monastery fell into disrepair and was significantly damaged. In the early 17th century, during the restoration of Orthodox shrines, the church was completely rebuilt, and the entire complex was thoroughly reconstructed. A rectangular narthex was added to the western part of the church, and all internal walls were re-painted. It is also recorded that in the 18th century, it housed one of the oldest schools in Serbia.

ANNUNCATION MONASTERY OF RUDNIK, STRAGARI

The Annunciation Monastery of Rudnik was designated as a cultural monument by the Decision of the Institute for the Scientific Study of Cultural Monuments of the People's Republic of Serbia, No. 1191/49, dated July 9, 1949, and categorized as a cultural heritage of great importance for the Republic of Serbia on April 7, 1979, in the ‘Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia,’ No. 14/79.

At the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century, the monastery was in poor condition, but during the time of Miloš Obrenović, it was renovated. At that time, a large bell tower was built on the western part of the church, the monastery guesthouses were restored, and the entire complex was enclosed with a wall. The iconostasis in the church, dating from the end of the 19th century, contains icons from earlier periods. During World War II, the monastery suffered significant damage again, after which it was subsequently restored.
