JAGODINA

The Municipal Court Building in Svetozarevo (now Jagodina) was erected in 1908, at the corner of the main street and one of the side streets. The dimensions of the plot designated for construction determined, in its basic outlines, the plan of the new building as a corner structure with two unequal wings, corresponding to the unequal significance of the streets. Facing the main street is the larger, representative wing, articulated with a central risalit, while the smaller, more modestly designed wing is set along the side street. At the very corner, on the beveled junction of the lateral wings, a corner risalit was modeled as the central motif of the entire building.

The Municipal Court Building in Svetozarevo was constructed in the spirit of academicism, with certain decorative elements of Art Nouveau, which are particularly pronounced in the interior – in the halls and the lobby with a monumental staircase. In the architectural design of the facades, special attention was given to the risalits. The corner risalit with the main entrance to the building is somewhat more richly decorated and accentuated. Its composition is dominated by three large, semicircular windows of the main courtroom, between which stand pilasters with Ionic capitals. The corners of the risalit are emphasized by massive pilasters designed in the Art Nouveau spirit. The final motif of this facade is a composition with the state coat of arms in the attic above the roof cornice, with an elevated hipped roof over the risalit in the form of a truncated pyramid, crowned by a decorative wrought-iron railing.

THE MUNICIPAL COURT BUILDING
IN SVETOZAREVO

The Building of the Municipal Court in Svetozarevo was constructed according to plans drawn up at the Ministry of Construction of the Kingdom of Serbia. To this day, the project designer has not been identified in archival documentation. However, by comparing this building with the District Court in Leskovac, due to their great similarity, and taking into account the fact that the author of the Leskovac Court is known, it can be stated with great certainty that the architect of the Svetozarevo Municipal Court Building was Svetozar Jovanović the Elder.

The Municipal Court Building in Svetozarevo was designated as an immovable cultural heritage – a cultural monument, by Decision of the Assembly of the Municipality of Svetozarevo No. 011-44/84-01, adopted at the session of the Council of Associated Labor and the Council of Local Communities on 28 June 1984 and published in the Official Gazette of the Municipality No. 19 of 13 July 1984. The building was designated as the Municipal Court Building in Svetozarevo, located at the corner of Maršal Tito Street and 17 October Street, Municipality of Svetozarevo.
