The Building at No. 121 Maršala Tita Street (now Kralja Aleksandra Street) in Kragujevac was designated as a cultural heritage – cultural monument, by the Decision of the Republic Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of Belgrade, No. 956/49, dated June 11, 1949.
THE BUILDING
IN THE MARŠALA TITA STREET NO. 121
The house is located within the Old Town Center of Kragujevac and is typical 19th-century urban residence. Its architecture is less significant than its historical value, which contributed to its designation as a cultural monument. Between 1873 and 1875, the “Kragujevac Social Printing House” was located at this site. It was here that Svetozar Marković, a renowned worker and founder of the Socialist Movement in Serbia, edited and printed the newspaper Javnost (“The Public”) and Oslobođenje (“Liberation”). He also wrote a large number of his economic and political articles, for which he was sentenced to death.
(now Kralja Aleksandra Street)
