The ‘Sokolana’ complex in the Old Workers' Colony was created based on the idea of Živojin Terzić, a brigadier general and the director of the Artillery-Technical Factory. The idea began its realization in 1924. Since there were limited funds at the time, Terzić decided to build a series of smaller buildings at this location, intended to house the workers constructing the settlement. An engineer was sent from Berlin to examine the terrain. The barracks were delivered from Germany, while the remaining construction work was done by local enterprises. The construction of the colony was completed in 1928. At that time, nearly 3,000 people lived at this site.
The Old Workers' Colony was a uniquely planned and executed workers' settlement in the territory of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia in the first half of the 20th century.
