On the flattened plateau above the Village of Županjevac are the remains of a medieval fortress, better known as Županjevački Grad. Archaeological research carried out several times in the early 21st century revealed that the town was built in the 14th century, with a monastery church in the central part of the plateau and accompanying buildings around it. Only the foundations and lower parts of the walls remain from the ramparts, towers, and inns. The fortress had an irregular oval base, the shape of which was determined by the form of the hilltop on which it was built. At the protruding northwestern and southern corners, there are remains of two circular towers, and between them, on the western side, was a four-sided entrance tower, to which an access path led. The fortress was built from irregular pieces of broken stone and lime mortar, with walls up to 3 meters thick. Inside the walls, the foundations of residential and economic buildings are visible. Directly next to the foundations of the medieval church, on its southern side, the Church of Saint Prophet Elijah was built in 1851.
