About ten kilometers northeast of Kragujevac, in the Village of Prnjavor, lies the Grnčarica Monastery. The Monastery complex consists of the church of St. Nikola, old and new dormitories, a refectory, and a low stone wall enclosing the entire area. It is believed to have been built in the mid-16th century, as suggested by fragments of the original frescoes found along the southern wall of the church and an inscription that was recently located above the church entrance. Over time, the monastery underwent numorous changes. During the Austro-Turkish wars in the first half of the 18th century, as well as during the Kočina Krajina uprising, it was burned and destroyed multuple times. It was restored during the 19th century, particularly in 1869 when the chirch and western dormitory were rebuilt from the ground up, and the entire complex was enclosed with a stone wall.
The church has a trefoil base, vaulted with semi-cylindrical arch and featuring a slender octagonal dome above the central space. The altar apse and side apses are semicircular both inside and out. A massive square bell tower with four biforas stands at the west. The facades are plastered and painted a yellowish color, with no decorative ornamentation. The roofs are gabled and covered with galvanized sheet metal. The Holy Table in the altar is made of stone, composed of two blocks with a carved cross on the pedestal. The frescoes and iconostasis in the church are of more recent date and hold no significant artistic value. Among the numerous icons in the church and refectory, a few artistic works from the second half of the previous century stand out for their quality.
