INFO PANELS INSTALLED ABOUT THE ARCHITECTURE OF THE CAPITAL CITY KRAGUJEVAC 1818-1841

As the first capital of the restored Serbia, Kragujevac existed in the first half of the 19th century as the political, military, religious, educational, and cultural center of the Principality of Serbia. This historical renaissance also impacted the city’s architecture, which slowly, but inevitably, transitioned from the Turkish-Eastern style to the Balkan-Oriental, and later to the European style of construction. Unfortunately, most of the buildings from Kragujevac's capital period have not been preserved, due to destruction in both world wars and the neglect of later generations.

In order to preserve the architectural heritage of the former capital Kragujevac, the Cultural Heritage Preservation Institute Kragujevac, under the patronage of the City of Kragujevac, prepared info panels about the buildings of the former capital (1818-1841). These panels were placed at 14 locations in the city, where the most significant buildings from this period have been recorded and described.
