amidzin konak u kragujevcu, milosev venac, zavod za zastitu spomenika kulture kragujevac

The Cathedral Church of the Assumption of the Most Holy Virgin in Kragujevac was built between 1871 and 1884. It is constructed of stone and brick, based on a design by Andreja Andrejević, the first architect to work in Serbia, who studied abroad. The project, as well as the building itself, was created in the spirit of the Russian national school, which, along with the contemporary restoration of the Serbian style, served as an introduction to the Serbian-Byzantine concept following the Hanzian school’s approach. The church has the shape of an inscribed cross with five domes, of which the smaller ones are octagonal, and the central, largest dome is placed on a tambour.
