The Building at No. 1 Maksima Gorskog Street in Jagodina is known as the ‘House of Jagodina Merchants’. It was constructed in 1931, reflecting Serbian-Byzantine architecture, as a result of the rich merchant tradition of this town, which had lasted nearly a century by the time the building opened. Designed by Momir Korunović, it was built as a unique architectural ensemble positioned at the intersection of three streets. Originally, the building had a ground floor and a first floor, but in 1970, an additional floor was added, resulting in the loss of much of the rich facade decoration.

The street facade is divided into a higher central block and lower, rounded side sections. The ground floor is not heavily ornamented, with decoration limited to the capitals of pilasters and columns on the entrance portico. The first floor features rich architectural decoration. Between the window rows, there is a cross-shaped decoration with a circle in the center. Above the prominent attic cornice, there is a row zigzag teeth of varying heights. Unlike the rectangular openings on the ground floor, the openings on the first floor are arched, framed by archivolts. The facade emphasizes dark-light contrasts, enhanced by the rich decoration and deep entrance portico. On the ground floor, there were rental shops, while the first floor housed the offices of the Merchants’ Association and a large hall for ceremonies and entertainment.
